Prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos

The Rule of the Mother of God of St Seraphim

The usual Trisagion Prayers and the Symbol of the Faith are followed by the prayers of the Rule of the Mother of God, in which an opening prayer indicates the meditation for the following decade of Rejoice, O Virgin Mother of God… prayers, which themselves are followed by closing personal prayers. Then follow an Our Father… and Open unto us… prayer prior to beginning of the next opening prayer for the next decade. The rule concludes with It is truly meet… and the usual closing for daily prayers. The Rule of the Mother of God of St Seraphim of Sarov is generally known, with the pre-decade prayers known having been taught to several disciples, but with St Seraphim having kept secret his after-decade prayers. The after-decade prayers included here are those of a disciple of the Saint, a holy nun, except for the tenth, thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth, which were incomplete or lost, and have been reconstructed.

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God be merciful to me, a sinner.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere present and fillest all things, O Treasury of every good and Bestower of life: come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times.)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, blot out our sins. O Master, pardon our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy Name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (Three times.)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord, have mercy. (Three times.)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O come let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and God.

I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father, through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets.

In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come.

Amen.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim Your praise.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos before her holy icon «Our Lady of the Sign»

(Dec. 10)

O most holy and blessed Mother of our beloved Lord Jesus Christ!

We fall down in adoration of thee before thy holy wonder-working icon, keeping the memory of the wondrous sign of thine intervention, shown unto Novgorod the Great in the days of that city’s siege.

We humbly beseech thee, thou all-powerful Protectress of our race: as thou didst hasten to the aid of our fathers of old, grand us now also, in our weakness, thy Motherly protection and care.

Save and keep, O Lady, thy community under the shelter of thy mercy; the holy Church, thy city, and all Orthodox Christians; all of us who in faith and love fall down before thee, with heartfelt tears begging thy defense.

Yea, most merciful Lady, take pity upon us who are cast about by the storm of our many sins, extend unto Christ the Lord thy hands that received God, plead our cause before His goodness, asking pardon of our sins, a devout and peaceful life, a happy Christian end and a good defense at HIs dread judgment seat; so that, saved through thy most effective prayers unto Him, we may inherit the bliss of Paradise and with all the Saints sing the glory of the most honourable and majestic name of the Holy Trinity, worthy of all worship: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and thy great mercy towards us, unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos before the Abalaksa Icon of «Our Lady of the Sign» (Siberia).

(Dec. 10)

O most holy Virgin, Mother of the Lord, the Highest; thou who art the Protectress and Defense of all that have recourse unto thee!

Look down from thy holy height upon us sinners, who fall down before thy holy and miraculous image; hearken unto our fervent prayer, and bring it before Jesus Christ the beloved; entreat Him, that our darkened souls be enlightened by thy Son our Lord, with the light of His Divine Grace; that we be delivered from every need, sorrow and malady; that a quiet and peaceful life and well-being of soul and body be sent down upon us from on high; that peace may come to our suffering hearts and and healing to their wounds; that we may be directed unto good works, our minds cleansed of vain thoughts, and we be taught to fulfill His commandments; and that He deliver us from eternal torment and not deprive us of His Heavenly Kingdom.

O Most Holy Theotokos!

Hearken thou, the Joy of All That Sorrow, unto us who grieve; Soothe thou, who art called the Consolation of Mourners, our sadness as well; Thou who art the Burning Bush, preserve the world and all of us from the flaming arrows of the enemy; Thou, the Seeker of the Lost, allow not that we perish in the abyss of our sins, for we place all our hope and expectation on thee, in God.

Be thou unto us a Protectress in this temporal life, and an Intercessor unto life eternal before thy beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Teach us to serve Him with faith and love, and to honour thee, Most Holy Mother of God, with devotion unto the end of our days. Amen.

Prayers to the Miraculous Icon of the Mother of God, «Pantanassa» (In English: «Queen of All» or The Healer of Cancer, Mother of God)

Dismissal Hymn. Troparion. Sung in Tone 4

Do Thou, O Sovereign Lady, by Thy joy-bestowing honorable Icon «Queen of All,» saves those who with fervent desire implore Thy grace; deliver from afflictions those who run to Thee; from all dangers do Thou guard Thy flock, who ever calls upon Thine intercession.

First Prayer to the Mother of God

O All-Gracious, most wondrous Mother of God, Pantanassa, Queen of All! I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof! But as Thou art the lovingly compassionate Mother of the merciful God, say the word that my soul may be healed and my weakened body strengthened. For Thou hast unconquerable might, and all Thy speech hath power, O Queen of All! Do Thou gain the victory for me, do Thou supplicate for me — that I may glorify Thy most glorious name, always, now and ever, and unto endless ages. Amen.

Second Prayer to the Mother of God

O Most-Pure Mother of God, O Queen of All! Hearken unto our much-afflicted sighing before Thy miraculous Icon, brought to Russia from the land of Athos. Look upon Thy children, suffering from unhealed ailments, who fall down before Thy holy image with faith! As a bird covers its nestlings with its wings, so do Thou now, who art ever present, cover us with Thy greatly healing omophorion. In that place where Hope be.

There where bitter sorrows overcome us, there will Patience and Rest be revealed. Where the torment of despair dwells in the soul, there will shine the ineffable Light of Divinity! Console the fainthearted, strengthen the weak, bestow softening and enlightenment upon embittered hearts. Heal Thine ailing people, O All-merciful Queen! Bless the minds and hands of our physicians, that they might serve as instruments of the All-powerful Physician, Christ our Saviour. We pray before Thine Icon, that Thou mightest truly live with us, O Sovereign Lady! Stretch out Thy hands, filled with healing and cures, O Joy of the sorrowful, Consolation in afflictions, that having speedily received miraculous help, wee may glorify the Life-creating and Undivided Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, unto the ages of ages. Amen.
